This website is maintained by the Mt Wilson Progress Association (MWPA).
Contact and property details for people who have a property in Mt Wilson or Mt Irvine, and where authorised, contact details of related non-residents and former residents, are stored on the database which forms part of the website. This Privacy Statement sets out how information is collected, used, disclosed and stored in the database and in software which records information about the use of the website. It also explains how individuals may access personal information held in the database.
Collecting your personal information
Any personal information about you which is stored in the database will only be gathered from three sources:
- Details provided by you (or someone authorised by you, on your behalf) to the MWPA or the Mt Wilson Mt Irvine Rural Fire Brigade by phone, email or on-line forms.
- Details that have been available historically from shared community sources such as the local telephone book or community group mailing lists.
- Details that have been disclosed to the MWPA, with your permission, by other local community groups in which you may be involved, such as the Mt Wilson Mt Irvine Rural Fire Brigade, the Mt Wilson and Mt Irvine Historical Society, or the Mt Irvine Progress Associations and others.
In addition, this website tracks the pattern of visitor usage including through the use of cookies. Cookies are pieces of information that a website can transfer to an individual's computer hard drive and later retrieve. They do not personally identify you, but do identify your browser.

What is this information used for?
We will use your personal information contained in the database for the following purposes:
- to advise of upcoming community events
- to distribute newsletters and other community-related information or announcements
- to contact you in times of a local emergency such as a large bushfire incident
- to share and use with other local community groups as explained in the next section.
In additional the more generic information collected about usage of the website is aggregated and used by the MWPA to assist it in improving the site and the services offered by it.
Disclosure of and access to personal information
Administrator access to the information held on the database is limited to community members who hold authorised roles and responsibilities requiring that access and by website contractors the MWPA employ including the company, Bizzdesigns, hosting the website.

Individuals may view their own personal information held on the database and the contact details of other persons who have consented to their contact information being made available online, by becoming a registered user of the site. Current and past owners and residents and persons they may authorise, are able to register as a user of the website and have their information recorded in the database. The MWPA also uses the information held on the database to publish a hardcopy telephone book. Many residents find this a useful way to contact their neighbours, however the online version will contain the most up to date information. You may opt out of having your information made available to others online and/or in the hardcopy telephone book.
The information held on the database is shared with and used by other local community groups, in particular the Mt Wilson Mt Irvine Rural Fire Brigade (RFB), the Mt Irvine Progress Association, the Mt Wilson Mt Irvine Historical Society and the Old School Mt Wilson, unless you request us not to. However, information may be shared with the RFB and the NSW Rural Fire Service more broadly, in the event of emergency.
Owners and residents are encouraged to allow their personal information to be shared with and used by the RFB to ensure that they are kept informed and safe during emergencies, in particular, bushfires and storms. The RFB also administers local WhatsApp groups, using the information collected on the database, to enable residents in localised areas to easily communicate with each other and to receive broadcast announcements from the RFB. All information collected in the database is stored in an appropriately secured format and the MWPA Website Committee determines who may given access to the information and the level of access.
A casual visitor to the website will only be able to access the public section, will not be able to register as a user of the site, and will not be able to access all pages on the website.
As explained above, members of the community will be given general, read only, access to personal information contained in the database for which permission has been given for its disclosure, when they register as a user and log in to the website using their username and password. The MWPA Website Committee vets and controls who may register as a user of the website.
Access to the web pages of other community groups on the website is determined and controlled by the relevant community group, in consultation with the MWPA Website Committee.
Administrator access is strictly controlled by the MWPA Website Committee. The Committee endeavours to take all reasonable steps to protect the personal information it holds from misuse, unauthorised access and modification.

Where we collect personal information about you on this site, you have the right to request for access to that information to be provided to you. We will not keep any personal information for longer than is necessary for the purposes for which it is used, and information will be stored and disposed of securely.
